However, I do also feel it is more likely to be found in certain environments. Touring can be difficult and I can relate to the sabotage comment made by beginthesound. I’ve also encountered many many wonderful and supportive men willing to share their knowledge and experience. It if it wasn’t for the great men who have mentored me I would not be where I am today. As I progressed in my career the sexual harassment became less of an occurrence. The positions I held became to grow in level and so did the shows. Now, I seldom encounter the outright sexual harassment. However, the subtle things still remain. People not talking to you all day, or talking to you too much because of your looks. Local heads of audio not trusting you with their system and offering advice that is not necessary and can sometimes be demeaning.

I would probably never have someone walk me to my car. Its just not safe to do so and may be misinterpreted. Whenever, I felt uncomfortable with someone I used to avoid them. Now, I feel confident enough to tell them its unwanted behavior and that I’m there to audio and nothing else.

The majority of men are really great and this doesn’t happen, but there are enough that it is indeed a regular occurrence and the most notable for me is the sabotaging of work. As we don’t carry anything but backline, it’s especially awesome when the house guys don’t properly align the pa to see if you catch it, because clearly if you’re female you’re not as good, or time delay, or fox phase issues like they would if they were providing PA for anyone else. My favorite is when they don’t talk to you ONCE after intros for a 15 hour day.
I take it with a grain of salt, and can now fix almost any problem in any system.
I’m so glad sound girls is here, because I’ve been doing this for going on 10 years and have NEVER had a female friend in the industry. It’s nice to see I am not alone in this.
